In addition to 100 hectares of their own vineyards in the sub-region known as Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay Estate source premium grapes from selected vineyards in Hawkes Bay, chosen for their ideal site location and varietal mix. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are grown in the Esk Valley, Crownthorpe, Clive and Havelock north sub-regions, while Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are solely from the renowned Gimblett Gavels district. Kate Radburnd, one of the leading winemakers in New Zealand, is a champion of the Gimblett Road region of Hawkes Bay, which is now recognized as one of the country's finest vineyard sites. With 20 years experience in cool climate winegrowing, Kate has also been a director of the Wine Institute of New Zealand, and is actively involved in industry education and research.
