CASABLANCA VALLEY, CHILE Kingston
Family Vineyards specialise in small production Pinot Noir, Syrah, and
Sauvignon Blanc from the hillside vineyards located in the far western
reaches of the Casablanca Valley. In 2003, the first vintage, they
produced a total of 450 cases. While coastal Casablanca is mostly know
for its white wines, Kingston are also championing its potential for
cool-climate reds. Winemaker,
Byron Kosuge, is from Napa where he made Saintsbury’s Pinot Noir for
fourteen years. Brian Denner, assistant winemaker, joined from Williams
Selyem in Sonoma. Kingston Family Vineyards are among the few
“garagistes” in Chile: Byron
and Brian make the wines in small one-ton fermenters. |
